Description

The Renewable Energy Risk Framework is designed to provide renewable energy operators transparency as to how risks to wildlife or wildlife habitat is determined when using the Wildlife Directive for Alberta Wind Energy Projects and the Wildlife Directive for Alberta Solar Energy Projects. The Framework can also be used as a tool to assist with project pre-planning to help minimize impacts to wildlife and wildlife habitat through project siting and other considerations.

Description

This document outlines the amendment process for renewable energy project applications. Proponents of wind and solar projects greater than one megawatt must obtain a Renewable Referral Report from Alberta Environment and Parks to complete their submission. After the completion of the Referral Report, but before commissioning of a project, changes may be made that have the potential to affect the project's wildlife risk ranking. In situations where the changes are significant to wildlife or wildlife habitat, amendments are used, to ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented by the proponent for wildlife.
