The Northeast Caribou Sub-regional Task Force was one of three task forces established in November 2019 to develop recommendations to inform the development of sub-regional plans to support caribou recovery in Alberta. The task force included representatives from First Nations, Métis groups, municipalities, environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs), the forest industry, the energy industry, trappers, motorized recreation groups, and other land-users. This reports presents the recommendations made by the task force to inform the development of a sub-regional plan for the Cold Lake sub-regional area, which includes the Cold Lake caribou range.

Presents the results of an aerial ungulate survey conducted in Wildlife Management Unit 514 on Jan. 6 and 7, 2017, using the distance sampling method. The objective of this distance survey was to estimate total population sizes, population densities, and sex ratios of moose and white-tailed deer in WMU 514 to inform game management decisions. Aerial surveys are the primary method used to assess the population size, distribution, population trends and herd composition of ungulates in Alberta. This information supports the effective management and conservation of ungulates, and is used to set hunting licence allocations, identify areas with agricultural depredation problems, and determine priority areas for recovery actions.

In summer of 2012, the Government of Alberta approved the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan and with it, three environmental management frameworks that aim to manage the cumulative effects of different activities in the region. The Groundwater Management Framework outlines a strategy for monitoring, evaluating and reporting changes in groundwater conditions, and identifies management actions that may be taken when such changes are observed. This supporting document provides summary information about the geology and hydrogeology of the Cold Lake Beaver River area, providing a basis for understanding groundwater conditions.

The report focuses on two significant elements: the inspection conducted under Section 571 of the Municipal Government Act, and a "Review of Municipal Sustainability" wherein the expressed desire of the City of Cold Lake to dissolve was examined.
