Surface water quality management frameworks are a key component of Alberta's cumulative effects management system. These frameworks are designed to monitor, evaluate and proactively manage the cumulative effects of human activity on ambient surface water quality in Alberta's major rivers. This report provides a summary of the feedback received during engagement processes undertaken to support the development of the North Saskatchewan Region Surface Water Quality Management Framework.

Surface water quality management frameworks are a key component of Alberta's cumulative effects management system. These frameworks are designed to monitor, evaluate and proactively manage the cumulative effects of human activity on ambient surface water quality in Alberta's major rivers. As part of the Government of Alberta’s ongoing commitment to implementing the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Government is planning to implement Indigenous introductory training for all Alberta Public Service employees, and Alberta agencies, boards, and commissions. The intent is to raise awareness of the historical and contemporary experiences of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in Alberta. Employees were engaged to provide feedback on the development of this training. This report summarizes the results of this feedback and will be used to inform the development of a training proposal.

Alberta's Climate Change Advisory Panel was established in the summer of 2015 to guide a climate leadership discussion process, to gather public and stakeholder input and advice in the development of government action plan to address climate change. The discussions included public open houses, an online engagement, online document submission, Aboriginal People's engagement and technical stakeholder sessions. This document the range of comments received at three Aboriginal engagement sessions held in Calgary, Edmonton, and Fort McMurray from September 1 to 14, 2015.

Description

The Aboriginal Engagement and Strategy (AES) division was formed in the department of Human Services in the fall of 2011 to enhance the capacity and cultural competency of the child intervention system to serve Aboriginal children and families. The division decided on the Community Conversation model to gather information as part of the process to meet this mandate. Community conversations bring together people with diverse perspectives to share their insights on a topic of common importance. Between December 2011 and May 2013, the Division met with over 1,300 people throughout the province. This report summarizes the information that was gathered by AES through these conversations.

From June 19 to October 31, 2013, the Together We Raise Tomorrow unified engagement took place on the Children’s Charter, Poverty Reduction Strategy and Early Childhood Development. Over 6,400 Albertans provided feedback through 302 community conversations, survey’s and on-line participation. In May 2014, the draft Children’s Charter was posted to childcharter.alberta.ca for Albertans to comment. In addition, discussions with members from the following Aboriginal partners took place across the province. Upon conclusion of the engagement, the notes from all conversations were reviewed and grouped into common themes: importance of language and identity, role of families and communities, acknowledgement of residential school experience; respect for the land and indigenous worldviews; educational inequities and issues of access.
