Description

This report is intended to inform Alberta Enterprise and Advanced Education on selected potential opportunities for biochemicals development in Alberta. The Department is interested in the economic feasibility of upgrading bioresources in Alberta (wood and wood wastes, wheat, canola and other crops, municipal solid waste, etc.) to useful chemicals. The report provides insight and analysis on 40 chemicals that were deemed to be of interest from a bio-production and import replacement aspect.

In October of 2011 a number of allegations were raised in the Legislature concerning policy changes to and management of the Incremental Ethane Extraction Program (IEEP). In response to these allegations, the Premier asked the Minister of Energy to conduct an investigation and provide public disclosure of the facts related to these concerns. This report provides the findings of the investigation.

These guidelines are intended to be the operational document in support of the Incremental Ethane Extraction Regulation approved July 2007 and the amendment to remove the program cap in September 2009. Guidelines were amended again in 2011 to extend the program to 2016 and to make revisions based on industry feedback gathered in fall, 2010, especially with regard to supply from off-gas projects. These guidelines are applicable to all existing approved projects.
