Description

The first Alberta Open Skies Forum was held in Edmonton on May 14, 2009, to provide a venue for Alberta stakeholders to provide perspectives and discuss opportunities that could stem from more Open Skies agreements with markets deemed potential priorities for Alberta. This report serves as a roll-up of the discussions that took place at the forum and the information that was presented in a discussion paper prepared for the forum.

Presents the findings of research conducted on behalf of the Canadian Tourism Commission to investigate the state of tourism travel to Canada from various European countries. In order to gather grassroots insights to shape the quantitative survey, as well as to give context to its results, focus groups were conducted among U.K., French and German travellers. This report focuses on the most relevant data for Alberta from the three European studies.

Insect collecting was targeted to the major ecotypes within the park. Many people contributed specimens for this study. Most arthropods collected were preserved in 70% ethanol or killed and placed in envelopes. Specimens were sorted and dispersed to other researchers to identify and curate. Spiders were field sorted, discarding debris and numbers of apparently common species. Material was sorted further in the lab, and again numbers of very common species were discarded. Specimens deemed of interest were pinned and labeled or repackaged in fresh vials of 70% alcohol. Non-beetle samples were passed on to other workers – spiders to D. Buckle, dragonflies to D. Macaulay, and butterflies and moths to D. Lawrie. The beetles are the focus of this report. The remaining insects, flies, bees, wasps, bugs and grasshoppers were sorted and vouchers pinned. They are catalogued in a separate report.

This report is based on the 2006 Travel Activities and Motivations Survey (TAMS), which was conducted between January and June 2006 and which examined the recreational activities and travel habits of Canadians and Americans. The survey provides detailed information on travellers’ activities, travel motivators, places visited, type of accommodation used, impressions of Canada, its provinces and territories, demographics and media consumption patterns. This report deals only with the travel patterns and attitudes of Canadians who were surveyed.

The survey provides detailed information on travellers’ activities, travel motivators, places visited, type of accommodation used, impressions of Canada, its provinces and territories, demographics and media consumption patterns. This report deals only with the travel patterns and attitudes of Americans who were surveyed.
