Description

The Alberta Crop Report provides timely provincial and regional summaries of crop production in Alberta during the crop season, and is used by industry and other stakeholders for various purposes, including drought monitoring and forecasting of production insurance payments. The report is also used to validate some of the Alberta crop estimates generated by Statistics Canada. Data for the report is collected through regular surveys on moisture and crop conditions, progress of seeding and harvesting, insect and disease situation, yield potential and crop quality, etc., along with information from other sources. Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) has delivered the Alberta Crop Reporting Program to clients since 1940.

Description

Cyanobacteria (also referred to as blue-green algae) are common photosynthetic bacteria that live in surface waters. Under favorable conditions, such as warm water and high nutrient content, these bacteria can form nuisance “blooms”. The presence of blooms in recreational water causes unpleasant aesthetics and exposure to some toxin-producing blooms may pose potential health risks. Contact with blooms can cause skin rashes and irritation, itchy eyes, and ear infections. Inhaling water may cause allergic-like reactions, runny noses or sore throats. Ingestion of toxins can cause a range of symptoms (e.g., hepatotoxic or neurotoxic effects, and even death). There has been increased public awareness as a result of research over the past 20 years, recent monitoring efforts, and increased public education on the topic. On March 15, 2019, the Alberta Social Housing Corporation, on behalf of the Government of Alberta, and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation signed a bilateral agreement under the 2017 National Housing Strategy bilateral agreement. As part of the agreement, Alberta will develop action plans to guide housing initiatives in the province and describe proposed programs and program funding allocations. The first action plan covered the time period April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2022, with the second action plan only covering one year, April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023. This is an update to Alberta’s second action plan, to cover the full three year cycle of April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2025.

Following is the list of Alberta government entities and departments not required to pay Goods and Services Tax (GST) on purchases of taxable supplies and services. These entities are part of the Alberta government for GST purposes and therefore immune from payment of GST as set out in section 125 of the Constitution Act of Canada. These entities are also not required to pay the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on their purchases in HST-participating provinces. The list is maintained by Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration.
