Description

Applicants for a security workers licence in Alberta must successfully complete a mandatory training course, which prepares them to write the provincial licensing exam, or provide proof of equivalent training in order to qualify for a licence. This resource is the participant manual for the training course. The instructional materials and activities in the course have been designed to increase the applicant’s knowledge of the daily duties and responsibilities of a security professional.

Description

In December and January 2011, Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security wished to survey the general public to obtain feedback on the services administered or provided by the department. This survey has been conducted on an annual basis since 1996. From 2002 to 2007 Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security and Alberta Justice and Attorney General jointly conducted a single survey of Albertans. Since 2008 an annual survey was commissioned solely by Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security. In 2009, 2010, and 2011 another survey was solely commissioned by Alberta Justice and Attorney General. Both annual surveys include a few questions that are of interest to both departments. The results of the 2011 survey, as outlined in this report, provide relevant measures to assist Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security in assessing public perceptions of its performance.

This program operates under the auspices of the Peace Officer Act, allowing the Government of Alberta to designate agencies and provide individuals with peace officer status for specific job functions. Duties and functions within the program vary greatly, from out-of-province police officers, to parking control personnel employed by a municipality.
