Description

The Wabasca Community Stewardship Project is a collaborative co-creative partnership between Northland School Division and Bigstone Cree Nation Education Authority facilitated by Alberta Education. The goals of this partnership are twofold. Northland School Division and Bigstone Cree Nation Education Authority collaboratively co-created a digitally based learning and teaching resource focused on Learning from Place within the Bigstone Cree traditional territories. Alberta Education recorded the development process so that a curriculum development model that engages students, educators and community stakeholders incorporating local traditional knowledge and expertise can be used by other jurisdictions for similar undertakings. This report chronicles the process undertaken in the development of the Wabasca Community Stewardship Project, and identifies learnings to carry forward to future collaborative community curriculum development activities.

Ce cadre est le fruit d’un examen de la littérature et de la recherche pédagogiques, de différents cadres d’apprentissage mis au point par des entités provinciales ou internationales, de consultations en ligne et d’échanges en face à face avec des éducateurs, des groupes de parents, des élèves, des enseignants, des administrateurs scolaires, des chercheurs, des employeurs et des organisations non gouvernementales. Il constitue un des fondements pour l’examen et le remplacement des résultats d’apprentissage de l’élève prescrits par l’Arrêté ministériel (A. M.) actuel sur les Buts et normes relatifs à la prestation de l’éducation de base en Alberta. Le Cadre et le nouvel Arrêté, auxquels s’ajoute la révision des normes, des lignes directrices et des processus, fourniront les orientations au curriculum futur (programmes d’études, outils d’évaluation, ressources d’enseignement et d’apprentissage).

This framework is the result of a review of educational literature and research and other provincial and international frameworks for learning, and online consultations and face-to-face engagements with educators, parent groups, students, teachers, school administrators, researchers, employers and non-governmental organizations. These activities confirmed among other things, general support for the competencies, described in Inspiring Action on Education (2010), that contribute to an inclusive education system and success for all students. Embedding competencies in curriculum will enable educators to develop engaging and relevant learning experiences for Alberta students.
