Description

The Teachers’ and Private School Teachers’ Pension Plans Regulation, together with parts of the Teachers’ Pension Plan Act, establishes the plan rules for the Teachers’ Pension Plan and the Private School Teachers’ Pension Plan. The Regulation identifies who is eligible to be a member of the pension plan, required member and employer contributions to the pension plan, rules for calculating pensionable service and the benefits to be received by the pension recipient and/or the recipient’s survivors. It also addresses matters such as early retirement, termination of employment prior to pension eligibility, cost-of-living increases, and pension payment provisions.

The Regulation addresses: the scope of information to be maintained in a student record; the transfer, retention and disposition of records; student, parent, and third-party access to a student record; board disclosure of information; and compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Information Protection Act.

The regulation requires school boards that are charging school fees to establish policies and procedures which address: consultation with parents, maintaining financial statements, identifying the need to charge the fees and the process to request a fee waiver or fee refund. In addition, boards must establish a fee schedule and publish their policies, procedures and fee schedule.
