Reports the findings of a study to review the safety and the economic efficiency of Energy Efficient Motor Vehicles (EEMVs), also referred to as Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs), in Alberta, as well as to consider the relative competitiveness of the competing railway mode. The use of the larger LCV truck configurations was found to represent a significant reduction in the number of movements taking place on the highways, a significant transportation cost efficiency for users of truck transportation services, a major reduction in fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions and a larger reduction in pavement wear.
