Description

The Ministry of Forestry and Parks is supplementing the Government of Alberta’s Proponent Guide to First Nations and Metis Settlements Consultation Procedures to provide proponents further guidance and direction when consulting on plans and/or activities requiring approvals under the Forests Act (FA) and Forest and Prairie Protection Act (FPPA), and/or associated policies and regulations. This document is in alignment with The Government of Alberta's policy on consultation with First Nations on land and natural resource management, 2013 and associated 2014 Guidelines, and The Government of Alberta's policy on consultation with Metis settlements on land and natural resource management, 2015 and associated 2016 Guidelines.

This guide provides details on the administrative steps, submission standards, and requirements of the consultation process for regulatory activities processed through the Electronic Disposition System (EDS). The Proponent Guide is published and managed by the Aboriginal Consultation Office (ACO). First released in September 2014, the guide was revised in February of 2015. The June 2016 release marks the second major update to the Proponent Guide.

This Policy is designed to create an approach to consultation that benefits all Albertans. The purpose of this Policy is to identify consistent approach to consultation that will be applied by Alberta Government departments involved in Land Management and Resource Development decisions. This Policy is intended to define Alberta's role in the consultation process and to set out Alberta's expectations of First Nations and Industry.
