This annual publication reports the sponsored research revenues of Alberta’s comprehensive academic and research institutions, which are: the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge, and Athabasca University. Sponsored research revenues are those funds received outside of the university base-operating grants and include both research grants and contracts. The data in the report describes funding from provincial and federal governments, industry, and non-profit organizations, and includes capital investments.

Effective use of technology can benefit all students, but especially those at the low and high ends of the achievement spectrum. The Technology and High School Success (THSS) initiative was a part of Alberta Education’s ongoing research into best practices in classroom technology implementation. This two‐year project was carried out in the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 school years and involved over 22,000 students and 420 teachers at over 70 schools. This report presents findings of a study into the results of the two-year initiative.

The Research Capacity Program (RCP) is a competitive funding program designed to support the acquisition of small equipment and large research infrastructure to build capacity in Campus Alberta institutions and support multidisciplinary teams of researchers conducting excellent research and innovation initiatives. The RCP is aligned with Alberta's research and innovation system and investments are made in the context of Government of Alberta (GoA) research and innovation priorities and Institutional Research Plan (IRP) priorities. The RCP uses a cost-shared funding approach to provide up to 40% of the total eligible project costs for successful proposals, enabling projects to leverage support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and other sources. To facilitate this cost-shared approach, the RCP coordinates its competition streams and competitive cycles with the CFI, as shown in the table below.
