A comprehensive literature review on the applicability of free and dissolved gas sampling for baseline water well testing : final report

Description

This report summarizes and evaluates currently available methods for free gas and dissolved gas sampling from water wells and discusses their applicability to groundwater testing near coalbed methane operations in Alberta. The ultimate goal is to assess advantages and disadvantages of the currently available techniques for determining the chemical and isotopic compositions of free and dissolved gases in groundwater obtained from water wells. Another objective was to evaluate whether suitable techniques exist to reliably analyze the chemical and isotopic composition of dissolved gas in groundwater, and if so, whether this would add important new information.
