This Alberta Official Statistic describes the violent crime rates for Canada and provinces for the years from 1998 to 2014. The rate is based on the incidence of violent crime per 100,000 population in each province. The Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics (CCJS), in co-operation with the policing community, collects police-reported crime statistics through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Survey. The UCR Survey was designed to measure the incidence of crime in Canadian society and its characteristics. UCR data reflect reported crime that has been substantiated by police. Information collected by the survey includes the number of criminal incidents, the clearance status of those incidents and persons-charged information. The UCR Survey produces a continuous historical record of crime and traffic statistics reported by every police agency in Canada since 1962. This Alberta Official Statistic describes the property crime rates for Canada and provinces for the years from 1998 to 2014. The rate is based on the incidence of property crime per 100,000 population in each province. This Alberta Official Statistic and performance measure uses the results of the General Status of Alberta Wild Species Report, and expresses the number of wild species that are “at risk” as a percentage of all those assessed. The general status of Alberta wild species is conducted to honour commitments under the Accord for the Protection of Species at Risk, an agreement by provincial, territorial, and federal ministers responsible for wildlife. The accord commits the parties to “monitor, assess, and report regularly on the status of all wild species,” with the objective of identifying those species that may be in trouble, those for which more information is needed, or those for which a formal status assessment or additional management attention is necessary.

This Alberta Official Statistic describes the proportions of Aboriginal Identity population by Mother Tongue (English, French, Aboriginal Languages and Other Languages) for Canada, Provinces and Territories based on the 2011 National Household Survey. Between May and August 2011, Statistics Canada conducted the National Household Survey (NHS) for the first time. This voluntary, self-administered survey was introduced as a replacement for the long census questionnaire, also known as Census Form 2B. The NHS is designed to collect social and economic data about the Canadian population.

This Alberta Official Statistic describes employment rates for off-reserve Aboriginal people and non-Aboriginal people living in Alberta for the period 2003-2014. The Employment Rate is a measure of the proportion of the working age population (15 years of age and over) who are employed. The Labour Force Survey provides estimates of employment and unemployment which are among the most timely and important measures of performance of the Canadian economy. In 2004, a question was added in the LFS for the western provinces to differentiate off-reserve Aboriginal people in the working age population.
