Description

The Food Safety and Licensed Facility-Based Child Care Review Panel (Review Panel) was established under Ministerial Order in response to the September 2023 Escherichia coli (E. coli) outbreak in licensed facility-based child care facilities in Calgary linked to a shared kitchen. The Review Panel was tasked to examine food safety in kitchens that provide food in licensed child-care facilities across Alberta and make recommendations on how to better protect children in these settings. The Food Safety and Licensed Facility-Based Child Care Review Panel Final Report advises the Ministers of Health and Jobs, Economy and Trade on opportunities to strengthen the Public Health Act, Food Regulation and Institutions Regulation, the Early Learning and Child Care Act and Early Learning and Child Care Regulation, and associated inspection processes in the context of prevention of foodborne illness.
