The Alberta Environmental Monitoring Working Group was established in March 2012 to provide expert advice, viable options and recommendations in deciding the future governance and funding of a new provincial monitoring, evaluation and reporting system. The Working Group was directed to report with recommendations and other relevant advice that outlines and assesses governance options.

This report makes recommendations for the establishment of a world class environmental monitoring, evaluation and reporting system to be managed by Albertans for Alberta. A key recommendation is the creation of the Alberta Environmental Monitoring Commission to operate at arm’s length from government, regulators and those being regulated. The Commission would be responsible for the strategic direction, scientific focus and on-going operation of the proposed environmental monitoring system.non
