Description

These reports, published twice a year by the Transmission Facilities Cost Monitoring Committee (TFCMC), provide a detailed and structured summary of the cost, scope and schedule information of the transmission projects monitored by the Committee during the period under review. The review may also include recommendations made by the TFCMC for consideration by the government. The TFCMC’s mandate is to review records that relate to the cost, scope, schedule and variances of Alberta transmission facility projects forecast to cost in excess of $100 million.

Description

In December 2011, the Minister of Energy appointed the Critical Transmission Review Committee to review the process and information used by the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) in developing its North-South transmission reinforcement plan. The Committee submitted its report in February 2012, which concluded AESO’s forecast, selection of high-voltage direct current technology, and timing of the two North-South transmission lines were reasonable. The report also included several recommendations. The Government of Alberta reviewed and considered the findings and recommendations of the Committee, and this document contains its response to the Committee’s report.
