Description

The Lower Athabasca Regional Plan came into effect in September 2012, and was the first regional plan established under Alberta's Land Use Framework. The progress reports offer information regarding the work accomplished or the barriers encountered in implementing the the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan and highlight the status of all the strategic commitments made in the plan. The reports meet the legislative requirements described in the Alberta Land Stewardship Act and the regulatory requirements embedded in the plan. They also fulfill a public commitment to regularly monitor and answer the question "was progress made toward achieving desired regional objectives expressed within the approved regional plans?"

Description

The South Saskatchewan Regional Plan establishes a long-term vision for the South Saskatchewan Region and aligns provincial policies at the regional level to balance Alberta's economic, environmental and social goals. The regional plan also includes strategies for responsible energy development, sustainable farming and ranching, recreation, forest management, and nature-based tourism. It has been established under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act, and the Land Use Framework. This version of the SSRP was amended in May 2018, and came into effect on May 31, 2018.

Description

Alberta’s Land-use Framework (LUF), released in December 2008, sets out a new approach to managing the province’s land and natural resources to achieve Alberta’s long-term economic, environmental and social goals. The LUF establishes seven new land-use regions and calls for the development of a regional plan for each. The South Saskatchewan Regional Plan sets the stage for robust growth, vibrant communities and a healthy environment within the region over the next 50 years. This resource presents an amendment of the original plan published in 2014.

A review panel was appointed in June 2014 to consider the six review requests and to provide recommendations to the Government of Alberta. As part of their work, the panel could request further information to permit a full and satisfactory understanding of the matters in the review. This record contains the panel's fourteenth request for information, directed to all First Nations. It also includes the response received to the information request from the First Nations as well as replies to the responses from the Government of Alberta.
