The Wildlife Management Plan remains the key document for managing the sanctuary as it provides the overall objectives, direction for managing land use within the sanctuary through general guidelines, and reviews of the history and policies that have been developed for Ministik. While the plan identifies numerous long term or ongoing management activities, it highlights several priority tasks to be completed.

Description

Both Smoke and Iosegun Lakes are well known as sport fisheries lakes and consequently over the years have become destination recreation lakes. Both lakes have some capability for increased recreational use and for residential use as they are located close to the town of Fox Creek. Although a number of other lakes int he region have excellent fisheries potential as well, Iosegun and Smoke have the best potential for expanded development due to the close proximity to established travel corridors and population centers and the fisheries resource is able to withstand limited increased harvesting.

Description

At the request of the Hon. D. J. Russell, Minister of Alberta Environment, a Committee of provincial and federal government as well as general public representatives was established to review the current use of warning signs in respect to water resources structures in the Province to recommend changes as required. The committee conducted a review of current legislation and procedures relating to the use of warning signs and the kinds of signs in use. IT found that there is a need for warning signs and for providing additional safeguards against personal hazards resulting from water resources and structures constructed in Alberta Waters. The Committee recommends that the guidelines as outlined in Appendix A be adopted as an initial set of guidelines. After implementation these guidelines can be improved and expanded as required.
