The Fisheries Contact Boundaries dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Environment and Protected Areas Fisheries Contact Boundaries within the Province of Alberta. The dataset is to help Government of Alberta Staff and external consultants to determine which Biologist is responsible for and has authority over Research Licenses (RL-PAAS and traditional RLs), FWMIS Data Request, and other Fisheries Management approvals within that region. Please refer to the metadata included with the data for full entity attribute information.

Description

This dataset is a digital representation of the Land Use Zones delineated in 'A Policy for Resource Management of the Eastern Slopes (Revised 1984).” There are 8 land use zones classified in the Eastern Slopes Region, falling under either one of the 3 broad areas of zoning: Protection (Prime Protection and Critical Wildlife), Resource Management (Special Use, General Recreation, Multiple Use and Agriculture) or Development (Industrial and Facility). The digital data was created based on paper maps of various scales and bases, in conjunction with digital files obtained from regional staff that were available. The horizontal positional accuracy of the layer is of +/- 500 metres. No attempt was made to check any zoned areas where discrepancies were not apparent.

The Parks and Protected Areas dataset contains Parks and Protected Area boundaries for sites administered by Alberta Forestry, Parks and Tourism, Government of Alberta. National parks, because of their similar intent, are also included. Boundaries have been interpreted from written legal descriptions appended to Orders-in-Council. In case of discrepancy between the GIS data and the written legal description, the written legal description shall take precedence. Please note that this dataset replaces the following datasets: Ecological Reserve, Heritage Rangeland, National Park, Natural Area, Provincial Park, Provincial Recreation Area, Wilderness Area, Wilderness Park, and Wildland Park.

Description

The Provincial Parks Act provides for designation of lands to be managed under the Act that are not established as parks/protected areas. These lands are 'declared' under the Provincial Parks (Section 7 Declaration) Regulation, and are legally described in Schedules to the Regulation. Specific provisions of the Act and regulations may be applied to each land parcel declared under section 7 to provide for management of the lands. Section 7 is used to address interim management of lands that have been acquired for park/protected area purposes but are not yet designated, or where activities not permitted in a park/protected area are being managed until such time as the activity is completed and the lands can be designated as a park/protected area. The applicable Ministerial Order is referenced in the 'NOTES' field.

This data collection contains the boundaries of the planning zones within the Livingstone-Porcupine Hills area. These datasets contain polygons representing the Planning Zones (Zone 2 – Enhanced and Zone 3 – Extensive) for both areas, as well as the Watershed Analysis Units of which there are seven (7) in the Livingstone PLUZ and three (3) in the Porcupine Hills PLUZ. Description

The objective of this project was to map and characterize abandoned padded wellsites (i.e., constructed with imported mineral soil materials between 1940 and 2020) in peatlands within the Boreal and Foothills Regions of the Green area in Alberta. This Project used high-resolution LiDAR data combined with open-access optical data from Sentinel-2 to build a supervised machine learning model that detected padded sites. The classification procedure achieved 81.2% accuracy when predicting no pad and 73.9% accuracy when predicting a pad, for an overall classification accuracy of 78%. As a result, a total of 7,077 padded sites and 8,006 unpadded sites in peatland areas were obtained from the supervised classification. This dataset contains the locations of those 7,077 padded sites. These sites will be used by the Project team to select sites for a field-based research program and will be provided to EPA to enable improved regulatory efficiency in the Province of Alberta.

It contains the following layers: Apex Franchise Areas, ATCO Franchise Areas, Coop Franchise Areas, County Franchise Areas, Independent Franchise Areas, Community Gas Distributors and Customer Meters. “Changes to boundaries are based on a) additions or deletions of lands under the Gas Distribution Act and b) annexations or dissolutions under the Municipal Government Act.” Franchises cannot be issued for federal lands. However, the gas distributors serving these lands are under the authority of the Gas Distribution Act.
