Description

The purpose of this interim directive is to allow applications to the Alberta Energy Regulator for 18 months, from March 20, 2024 to September 18, 2025. The pilot will include up to 100 site reduction applications for minimum disturbance well leases on private land. The intent of the pilot is to inform a decision whether to accept reclamation certificate applications for reclaimed portions of well sites.

The interim directive is for 18 months starting February 1, 2024 and expires on July 31, 2025. The Interim Directive: Pilot for Reclaiming Peatlands would enable the Alberta Energy Regulator to accept, review and make decisions to change peatlands to forest lands. A decision framework and support tools for Reclaiming Wellsites and Access Roads on Public Lands was made to protect the surrounding peatlands.
