Description

In Alberta, the distribution and abundance of wolverine may be declining. An objective method for monitoring wolverine distribution and estimating abundance would allow informed conservation decisions. A review of the methods available for inventory of wolverine was conducted, including snow tracking in and aerial tracking. It is suggested that hair sampling combined with microsatellite genotyping, though still in the testing phase, is likely to be the most valuable method to measure both abundance and distribution of wolverine.
