Description

Orders that upon the establishment of a municipal library board in the Town of Diamond Valley, that the intermunicipal library board known as the Sheep River Library Board immediately dissolve; and that the assets, liabilities, agreements, and staff of the Sheep River Library Board transfer to the newly established municipal library board. Furthermore, orders that should the Town of Diamond Valley fail to establish a municipal library board under Section 3(1) of the Libraries Act, that the Sheep River Library Board shall dissolve on June 30, 2023.

The Turner Valley gas plant site, used for many decades for petroleum production and refining, was decommissioned after 1985 and was designated as a historic site in 1995. A reclamation program was implemented for the redevelopment of the site. As part of the reclamation program, a groundwater containment and treatment system was constructed to contain and treat impacted groundwater. The objectives of the 2017 monitoring and sampling programs were to evaluate the groundwater quality at selected areas of the historical gas plant and the performance of the containment wall and treatment corridor.

Threepoint Creek, a tributary to the Sheep River, originates in the Kananaskis Improvement District and flows into the Municipal District of Foothills No. 31. The entire Threepoint Creek sub-basin was identified as a potential candidate for the Fisheries Habitat Enhancement and Sustainability (FISHES) Program by Regional Fisheries Management staff. Widespread habitat degradation and increased sediment inputs, exacerbated by the 2013 flood, are significant issues for fish in this creek.

Description

Historic resources assessments of the impacts the 2013 flood on palaeontological and archaeological resources adjacent to the Bow, Sheep, and upper Highwood rivers in southern Alberta were conducted between 2013 and 2015. These studies visually assessed erosional exposures on these rivers and documented historic resources. Analysis of the location and character of these finds has shed light on the types of landforms present and the nature of human occupations in the Bow River watershed, and highlights how significant the impact of flood-related erosion has been on historic resources. This paper discusses these finds in a regional context to integrate them into the larger geological and precontact landscape contexts of southern Alberta. Part of the 37th volume of the Archaeological Survey of Alberta Occasional Paper series, which contains 18 articles exploring multiple facets of the impact on archaeological resources of the 2013 flood in southern Alberta.
