This schedule sets out the water conservation objective flows for the Oldman River from the Oldman River Reservoir to the Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District weir. Water conservation objectives set out the volume and quality of water to remain in rivers for the protection of a natural water body and its aquatic environment. They are flow targets under the first-in-time, first-in-right priority water allocation system and apply to all new licences and existing licences with a retrofit provision.

The Oldman Reservoir was constructed to assure downstream water supplies for consumption and irrigation, and to provide additional water for future expansion of irrigated land. Additional benefits included enhancement of downstream fisheries, recreation and increased capability to meet flow commitments to the downstream province. The reservoir attenuates peak flows during flood events, although this capability is limited.

This report presents a summary of the biological information gathered on fish populations in the upper Oldman River system during the initial five years (1991 to 1995) of operation of the Oldman River Reservoir. Populations of the major sport-fish species in the Oldman River Reservoir appear to have remained relatively abundant during the first five years of reservoir operation. Continued monitoring of fish populations in the Oldman River Reservoir is recommended because limnological and biological conditions within reservoirs commonly require longer than five years to stabilize.
