This fact sheet outlines the Government of Alberta’s decision to order a municipal inspection of the City of Calgary following two major failures of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main in 2024 and 2025. In Alberta, equalized assessment is the means of comparing property wealth in a uniform manner for all municipalities. Alberta uses an ad valorem assessment and tax system where property taxes are based on wealth and wealth is measured by the value of property expressed as an assessment. Equalizing an assessment is simply a process of adjusting each municipality's taxable assessment to a common year in accordance with current legislation and policy. The equalization process results in a common provincial assessment base that is used to determine the amount of requisition for each requisitioning body.

Lists the dollar amount of the provincial education requisition credit for Alberta municipalities. The Government of Alberta launched the Provincial Education Requisition Credit program in response to an economic downturn in the oil and gas industry which has caused hardship for municipalities across the province. The program provides municipalities with an education property tax credit equal to the uncollectable education property taxes on delinquent oil and gas properties, upon approval of a qualifying application.
