The Alberta Activity Index (AAX) closely tracks economic activity. Developed by Alberta Treasury Board and Finance, it is a weighted average of nine monthly indicators (employment, average weekly earnings, retail trade, wholesale trade, manufacturing, new truck sales, housing starts, rigs drilling and oil production). This data file is updated monthly. See the related tab for a link to the AAX web page which includes highlights and a chart.

The 2018-19 Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) survey was the first known occupational health and safety population survey conducted in Alberta. The survey was designed to provide baseline data for future comparisons. The objectives of the survey were to provide data on a variety of factors affecting worker health and safety, understand the relationships between factors affecting worker health and safety, gain insight on worker vulnerability, and understand industry and occupation specific factors over time. A total of 8,464 records were validated and included in the public use data file.

Economic multipliers are used to assess the impacts on the economy of an exogenous change in final demand or output of a given industry. Impacts are estimated in terms of total output, gross domestic product, employment and labour income. These multipliers reflect the structure of the Alberta economy and industry linkages during the reference year. Each publication contains multipliers specific to various industries and commodities for two models: the "Open" model covers direct and indirect impacts while the "Closed" model covers direct, indirect and induced impacts. Note regarding the 2020 input-output multipliers: Statistics Canada recommended that due to the COVID pandemic in 2020, the structure of the economy was significantly altered. The 2020 input-output multipliers and input-output models should be used for analysis of economic impacts in 2020. The study is based upon an online poll conducted between March 24 and April 5, 2017 on behalf of the researchers by a commercial polling company. The respondents comprised 2,000 Albertans engaged in paid employment in the previous 12 months.
