The Scaling Standards of Alberta provides the standards of measurement used to determine the quantity and quality of timber harvested in Alberta. In addition, the standards provide information about compiling and reporting harvest data and describes non-standard scale methods used to estimate volumes of decked and stacked timber. These standards are authorized and posted under sections 2(1) and 2(2) of the Forests (Ministerial) Regulation, pursuant to Section 5(e) of the Forests Act.

Ground rules are the practices used in planning and conducting timber harvesting operations. They constitute the methods used to implement decisions made in forest management plans and other higher-level plans such as integrated resource plans.
