Description

This map series includes the Reconnaissance Vegetation Inventory maps as well as Current Vegetation Cover (CVC) for Wildlife Resource Inventory and the Assessment and Current Cover Types (CCT) for Wildlife Habitat Inventory. This series of reports and hardcopy maps provides a broad vegetation inventory for the Green Area and White Area. The maps depict both forestry and agricultural based vegetation cover types including those native and introduced to the province, as well as height, and density. In some cases non-vegetated areas are included in the inventory. The Reconnaissance Vegetation Inventory and Current Cover Types for Wildlife Habitat Inventory maps were created at a scale of 1:100 000. The Current Vegetation Cover for Wildlife Resource Inventory and Assessment maps were created at a scale of 1:250 000. The legend for the Reconnaissance Vegetation Inventory maps is slightly more detailed than the legend for the Current Cover Types for Wildlife Habitat Inventory maps. This...

Description

The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory was initiated in 1949 and completed by 1956. The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory included all publicly owned forested lands in the province except Indian lands, national parks, and an area known as the Rocky Mountains Forest Reserve. The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory was used to define lands suitable for agriculture, to determine timber harvest levels and plan forest protection and timber and industrial development. Through aerial photo interpretation, land was classified as productive, potentially productive, or non-productive. On productive forest land, homogeneous groups of trees were classified by 'cover types'. Cover types included crown density, height and tree species. Burned, harvested or cultivated land was identified as potentially productive. Non-productive lands included areas with organic soils, barren rock and lakes. No ages or site classes are associated with the polygons. The minimum polygon size was 65 ha....

The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory was initiated in 1949 and completed by 1956. The Historical Watershed Boundary Maps consists of the watersheds printed colour maps within Alberta that were delineated as part of the Phase 3 Forest Inventory program. The maps have been scanned in black and white as well as colour. This product can be viewed on a computer, printed or plotted in part or in whole. All available maps are provided in Adobe PDF and Tif format sorted by the National Topographic System (NTS) 1:50 000 and 1:250 000 blocks within downloadable WinZip files. This series is not updated and contains a range of publication dates and scales. Approximately 2/3 of the series is currently available. the rest of the Historical Watershed Boundary Maps are missing. These will be scanned and added to the collection if they become available. These maps are not available as geo-referenced rectified images or GIS-ready data.
