Description

Consolidated to include amendments in force as of March 8, 2019 The Code outlines required practices for the construction, maintenance, replacement or removal of permanent and temporary watercourse crossings, such as bridges and culverts. The Code specifies requirements for providing notice, planning, emergency response procedures, certification and confirmation, reporting, record keeping, information availability and monitoring. Criteria are provided for the classification of water bodies and restricted activity periods, as well as watercourse crossing types.

The Code prescribes measures to be taken to protect aquatic environments during construction and other activities related to pipelines and telecommunication lines crossing a water body: submission of a notice to the Director; the Code lists the information requirements of a notice.; timing of activity, and nature of works that vary with the classification of the water body; preparation of a plan for works that meet specific design and construction standards and other requirements; activities be done within the manner permissible according to water body classifications described within the Code, and outside of restricted activity periods; reporting of contraventions of the Code; keeping of records and the time periods for which records must be kept; and monitoring of pipeline crossing or telecommunication line crossing.
