Through this bilateral funding agreement, the federal government is investing close to $1.1 billion over three years, from 2023-24 to 2025-26, as part of a 10-year plan for funding and collaboration. This funding will help accelerate efforts already underway in Alberta to improve health care access and services, as described in Alberta's three-year action plan.

The Swan Hills Treatment Centre (SHTC) is a facility for the safe disposal of special wastes located approximately 12 km northeast of the town of Swan Hills, AB. On October 16, 1996, a malfunction of a transformer furnace was discovered to have caused the release of a portion of process gases containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) into the ambient air. These chemicals can be harmful to human health. Therefore, in 1997 Alberta Health (AH) conducted a human health risk assessment study to estimate human exposure and to evaluate the effectiveness of public health interventions. As a result of the study, food consumption advice for wild game and fish taken within a 30 km radius of the facility were issued out of concern that PCBs and PCDD/Fs were accumulating in these locally caught foods. On November 8th, 2022 at the 40th Annual Meeting of Federal-Provincial-Territorial Ministers responsible for the Status of Women, ministers endorsed the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence; a ten-year, collaborative approach to ending gender-based violence. The Department for Women and Gender Equality Canada is funding provinces and territories to supplement and enhance services and supports within their jurisdictions to prevent gender-based violence and support survivors. The purpose of the agreement is to support Alberta's implementation of the National Action Plan based on our specific context and priorities.

This table provides statistics on Family Composition, Family Income, Housing Mobility, Language, Immigration, Educational Attainment, Household and Dwelling Characteristics for selected indicators. This indicator dataset contains information at both Local Geographic Area (for example, Lacombe, Red Deer - North, Calgary - West Bow, etc.) and Alberta levels. Local geographic area refers to 132 geographic areas created by Alberta Health (AH) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) based on census boundaries. The Federal Census (2016) and National Household Survey (2016) information is custom extracted by Statistics Canada at the local geographic area level. The population of these areas varies from very small in rural areas to large in metropolitan centers. This table is the part of "Alberta Health Primary Health Care - Community Profiles" report published March 2019.

The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) is a publicly-funded health care plan. It is established in accordance with the Canada Health Act principles of public administration, comprehensiveness, universality, portability and accessibility. The Statistical Supplement is an accompaniment to the Alberta Ministry of Health annual report and includes data on the number of people registered with the AHCIP, payments made by the AHCIP to Alberta physicians and allied practitioners (dental specialists/oral surgeons, optometrists and podiatrists) for services provided to Albertans, and payments for services provided to Albertans while they are out of the country. The Statistical Supplement also reports data on the non-group supplementary health insurance plans.

Description

Stormwater ponds are artificial structures that are critical components of stormwater management systems in many Canadian cities. They serve to prevent flooding of urban areas during excess rainfall. Stormwater ponds also contribute to environmental health by allowing the settlement of dirt and solids from stormwater to the bottom of the pond. As a result, the sediments of stormwater ponds can become enriched with potentially harmful contaminants. The health risks posed to anglers by contact with stormwater and sediments and consumption of fish from stormwater ponds are not well characterized. The City of Lacombe (Alberta) is a municipality with two stormwater ponds stocked with sterile fish for angling. Alberta Health collected water, sediment and fish from these two ponds over two seasons (fall 2010 and spring 2011) and analyzed the samples for a suite of contaminants.
