This fact sheet summarizes public feedback on the purpose, objectives, principles and planning issues and concerns of the draft West Bragg Creek trails plan. This new plan will lead to improved and maintained trails, support for recreation and the protection of natural ecosystems in the West Bragg Creek trail system.

Description

The West Bragg Creek trail network has been operated by the Bragg Creek Trails Association, in partnership with the Government of Alberta's Forestry and Parks since 2010. Ten years after the completion of the first All Seasons Trail Plan (2010) for the area, Bragg Creek Trails Association and Alberta Forestry and Parks collaborated on updating the trail plan. The West Bragg Creek Trails Master Plan serves to maintain the area's success as a hub for trail-based recreation and tourism supported by basic facilities while addressing increased visitation and growing visitor use conflicts and safety issues.

The Alberta Recreation Survey is a series of surveys that have been conducted approximately every four years since 1981. The survey collects information related to participation patterns of Albertans and the factors which influence their recreation activity choices. The following questions have consistently been included in each survey: participation by household members and respondents in an extensive array of social, creative, cultural, recreation, outdoor and sport activities; respondents' three favourite activities and reasons for participation in their first favourite activity; an activity respondents would like to start and the reasons for not starting the activity, involvement as a volunteer; opinions on recreation and parks activities and services and demographic information about the respondents and their households. The proposal is to construct and operate an aerial passenger ropeway system along with a day lodge, trail networks, viewing platforms, suspension bridge and associated utility services infrastructure as part of the Silvertip Integrated Village Resort. The proposed passenger aerial gondola would connect the base area of the Silvertip Resort to an upper terminal on the summit ridge of Mount Lady MacDonald, via a mid-station integrated with the Silvertip Resort Village.
