Description

This follow-up investigation and screening level HHRA update was completed to address data gaps and recommendations outlined in the HHRA previously conducted by Golder in 2010 and 201. Specifically, the objective of this investigation was to collect additional seasonal groundwater and soil vapour data at the site, and to update the previous HHRA based on this new data. The soil vapour sampling events carried out as part of this investigation targeted times of year when groundwater levels were expected to be at their approximate lowest and the vapour risk was assumed to be at its approximate highest.

In addition, glycols are used in the dehydration of natural gas streams. However, no soil or groundwater remediation guidelines have been published provincially or federally to date for these amines. This document develops proposed soil and groundwater remediation guidelines for DEG and TEG consistent with Alberta Environment protocol.

In June 2001, Alberta Environment hosted two workshops in Red Deer, Alberta, to introduce the draft Alberta Soil and Water Quality Guidelines for Hydrocarbons at Upstream Oil and Gas Facilities, Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment Guideline for Upstream Oil and Gas Sites, and the Salt Contamination Assessment and Remediation Guidelines. Workshop participants provided written questions to the presenters to answer verbally during the sessions. For the benefit of the workshop attendees and others who are interested in the workshop material, these questions and answers have been drafted into the document Frequently Asked Questions on the Remediation and Reclamation of Soil and Groundwater. Other frequently asked questions on remediation of soil and groundwater have been included to provide readers with broader scope of information.
