As part of the Alberta Healthcare Initiative, a five-volume series of Best Practice documents was produced to better acquaint healthcare workers with workplace hazards and appropriate control measures. A series of short summaries of relevant information have also been produced using excerpts from these five best practice documents, to focus the hazard assessment and control information for specific healthcare professions. This summary focuses on hazards and controls in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Respiratory Therapists. It may also be useful for recreation therapists.

A 46-year old male worker was repairing a tire from a heavy hauler. The worker was in the process of inflating the tire, when the steel components came detached from the tire, struck the worker, pinning him against the service truck. Presents the findings of an investigation into a workplace fatality in the business personal and professional services sector that occurred in April, 2009. A 34-year old female worker, employed as a landscaper, was close to two workers but not assisting with the work at the time of the incident. The two worker were in the process of falling a tree when the tree cracked and one of the workers shouted a warning. The tree fell and struck the female worker on the head.
