Description

Sets out the procedures to administer and coordinate the operations of the Aboriginal Consultation Office and Alberta Energy Regulator on matters relating to Metis Settlements consultation, in accordance with the directions provided in Ministerial Order Energy 39/2016 and Environment and Parks 16/2016. The Procedures operates as a standing request from the Alberta Energy Regulator to the Aboriginal Consultation Office for advice on whether Alberta has found consultation adequate, adequate pending outcome of the AER's process, or not required, and on whether actions may be required to address potential adverse impacts on Metis Settlement members' harvesting or traditional use activities, under section 7 of the ministerial order, for all decisions made by the AER under the specified enactments.

Sets out the procedures to administer and coordinate the operations of the Aboriginal Consultation Office and Alberta Energy Regulator on matters relating to First Nations consultation, in accordance with the directions provided in Ministerial Order Energy 105/2014 and Environment and Sustainable Resource Development 53/2014. The Procedures operates as a standing request from the Alberta Energy Regulator to the Aboriginal Consultation Office for advice on whether Alberta has found consultation adequate, adequate pending outcome of the AER's process, or not required, and on whether actions may be required to address potential adverse impacts on existing Treaty rights and traditional uses, under section 7 of the ministerial order, for all decisions made by the AER under the specified enactments.

In November 2005, participants at the Workshop on Geological Storage of CO2 at Princeton University agreed on the need for a common test problem to assess various models to simulate the fate of CO2 injected into the subsurface. Alberta Geological Survey offered to make available the data for the Wabamun Lake area in Alberta, Canada, which were assembled to develop a comprehensive model for studying CO2 geological storage. The Wabamun Lake area, southwest of Edmonton in central Alberta, was selected as the test area because a variety of favourable conditions identified it as a potential site for future, large-scale CO2 injection. Several large, industrial CO2 point sources are in the area, resulting in short transportation distances of the captured gas. Various deep saline formations with sufficient capacity to accept and store large volumes of CO2 in supercritical phase exist at the appropriate depth and are overlain by thick confining shale units. Locations of uraniferous boulder-fields and uraniferous swamps extracted from industry assessment reports are useful metallogenetic indicators for uranium exploration within and around the Athabasca Basin. They are used as pathfinders to uranium occurrences and prospects. These locations along the northern rim of the Athabasca Basin in Alberta have been compiled in GIS format and delivered as a point shapefile. In Alberta, the northern rim of the Athabasca Basin and the regolith underlying the Athabasca unconformity are locally exposed along the northern shore of Lake Athabasca. Extensive uranium exploration work in the 1970s, including scintillometer prospecting traverses, geological mapping, airborne and ground geophysics, and drilling, have documented several uraniferous outcrops with scintillometer readings of up to 10 000 counts per second, and uraniferous boulders and boulder trains with radioactivity up to two orders of magnitude higher than the background. Locations of uraniferous boulders fields and uraniferous swamps extracted from industry assessment reports are useful metallogenetic indicators for uranium exploration within and around the Athabasca Basin.
