Description

The soil survey report for the County of Forty Mile begins with a general description of the county and summarizes the 28 land systems, followed by a general description of the soils and mapping methods. Part 3 of the report describes the soils in the county and provides a framework for the detailed legend provided in Appendix I. Part 4 provides interpretations of land capability for dryland agriculture, irrigation capability, grazing capability, wind erosion risk, and water erosion risk. This part also discusses soil degradation. Includes eight separate soil maps.

Description

The purpose of this soil survey is to describe the properties, extent and distribution of soils in the M.D. of Rocky View, as well as to provide interpretations relating to agriculture and soil conservation issues. The current survey provides considerably more detail than previous surveys of the area and utilizes significant advances in soil classification and mapping procedures developed since completion of the earlier surveys.

Description

This report and the accompanying maps summarize the results of the soil survey of the County of Flagstaff in the Eastern Alberta Plains physiographic region of east-central Alberta. Most of the county is characterized by nearly-level to gently-undulating topography with deranged drainage and numerous small depressions and sloughs. Steeper topography occurs in the eastern third of the county in areas of hummocky moraine and incised meltwater scour channels.

Description

The report is presented in five parts. Part I outlines the location of the study area and provides a general description of its physical environment. Part II is a summary of the concepts of soil formation, classification and mapping that were used in this survey. Part III contains detailed descriptions of the soil symbols found on the maps. In Part IV, the soil units described in Part III are interpreted for various potential land uses. Part V consists of five appendixes that contain tables of data and other technical information. Four soil maps supplement the report.

Description

This report and accompanying soil maps describe the characteristics, distribution, and use limitations of the soils in the Iosegun Lake area in north-western Alberta. As part of the program to inventory Alberta's land resources at a reconnaissance scale, this soil survey provides baseline data for general land use planning. A brief treatment of the geology, history, climate and vegetation of the area is presented as background information to a general understanding of the landscape. The complete report consists of the written text and four soil maps. Soil units are identified on the map, and are described briefly in the legend, and at a greater length in the text in terms of the landscape and environments where they occur. Discussion on use and management of the soils is included. Ratings of soil suitability for agriculture, forestry and selected engineering uses are included.

This report and accompanying soil maps provide data on the kind, characteristics, location, and areal distribution of soils in the Wapiti map area, and indicate the suitability of these soils for various specified uses. The first sections of the report outline historical, natural resource, and economic highlights of the area. This is followed by a discussion of the environmental aspects of the region, and an evaluation of some trends in soil formation pertinent to the area. The report then describes the system and methods that were employed in soil mapping, and outlines soil survey interpretations relating to forest vegetation, agriculture, engineering, and erosion hazards. Four appendices provide: detailed descriptions of the soils and pertinent analytical data, discussion of the forest vegetation classification; guidelines for evaluating the soils for specific uses; and a glossary of commonly used soil, vegetation, and geological terms as well as an outline of the Canadian System...
