Presents the findings and recommendations of the Transforming the Advanced Education System Subcommittee, which was tasked with developing a series of policy strategies and recommendations to support the vision and policy directions identified through the A Learning Alberta initiative. The Subcommittee developed recommendations on three important aspects of the system: funding, quality, and accountability; affordability for learners; and innovation, research, and technology.

This report provides a 20-year strategic plan for achieving these goals. Its recommendations expand the direction contained in the Alberta Government's 20-year strategic plan, Today's Opportunities, Tomorrow's Promise. The recommendations recognize that in order to maximize opportunities for Albertans to reach their full potential, the advanced education system must operate within a collaborative framework that expands opportunities, focuses on communities, and reaches out to underrepresented - disadvantaged groups. Through transformational changes, Albertan's youth will become better prepared and adapted to be active citizens and productive workers.

In 2005 a comprehensive review of Alberta’s advanced education system, known as A Learning Alberta, was initiated, with the goal of articulating a new vision and policy outcomes for Alberta’s advanced education system. Part of this review included a Minister’s Forum on Advanced Learning, held November 1 and 2, 2005 in Edmonton. This document presents a summary of the discussions and results of the forum.
