A Primary or Secondary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) is a communication centre which receives 9-1-1 calls from a defined geographic area and processes those calls according to a specific operational policy. The Alberta 9-1-1 Standards apply to both Primary and Secondary PSAPs providing 9-1-1 Services within the province of Alberta.

This Regulation ensures that only vehicles that are safe to operate can continue operating on Alberta’s highway network. This is achieved through: designating certain vehicles as salvage vehicles; regulating the sale of salvage, out-of-province and used vehicles, and; creating a comprehensive vehicle inspection program. The Regulation requires vehicle inspection facilities and technicians to be licensed and to adhere to strict standards. Both are subject to being investigated.

This Act was proclaimed in force on January 1, 2010, except for section 72, which was proclaimed in force on August 25, 2004. The Act provides for the administrative structure of Alberta’s highway network and emphasizes public safety through regulating the physical condition of the highway network. The Act was developed with the intention of replacing administrative structure for highways described in the Public Highways Development Act. The Act also coordinates the administrative relationship between city transportation systems and the province’s highway network.

Description

The Agricultural Operation Practices Act (AOPA) and its associated regulations apply to all agricultural operations in Alberta. The purpose of the Act is to ensure that the province’s livestock industry can grow to meet the opportunities presented by local and world markets in an environmentally sustainable manner. Part one of the Act defines how nuisance issues such as odour, dust, noise and smoke resulting from agricultural activities are addressed. Part two of the Act sets the permitting process for the construction or expansion of confined feeding operations, the compliance process, and offences related to, and penalties for contravening, the Act. The Act outlines how affected parties and neighbours are consulted in the approval and review processes. The Natural Resources Conservation Board is responsible for delivering AOPA, permitting of confined feeding operations, and addressing complaints regarding the management of manure on agricultural operations in Alberta.

Description

The Emergency 911 Act authorizes the establishment of a monthly 911 levy on wireless devices that is collected by telecommunication companies and remitted to the Government of Alberta to support 911 Public Safety Answering Points. In addition, the Act authorizes the establishment of province-wide standards and guidelines respecting call taking processes and procedures and establishes fines for frivolous or vexatious 911 calls. The Act also provides the authority for the Emergency 911 Levy Regulation (TBF) and the Emergency 911 Grants Regulation (MA).
