Description

The Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW) is a federal-provincial/territorial cost-shared initiative designed to assist unemployed older workers living in small, vulnerable communities of 250,000 people and less with their reintegration into the workforce. This compendium was compiled to illustrate examples of best practices in TIOW programming from across Canada since the inception of the program in 2006.

Ce recueil vise donc à servir d’outil utile pour : présenter un aperçu des nombreux projets et pratiques novateurs et fructueux de l’ICTA qui ont été mis en oeuvre par les provinces et les territoires, ainsi que décrire et diffuser les leçons apprises; aider les P/T ou les promoteurs de projet à reproduire les modèles de l’ICTA pour d’autres populations ou d’autres programmes relatifs au marché du travail pour les travailleurs âgés; fournir des sources supplémentaires de connaissances sur le programme afin de compléter l’information produite par d’autres moyens, notamment les études d’évaluation, les présentations lors d’atelier et les portraits partagés par les P/T.

It can also help employers overcome common misperceptions about older workers' capabilities, and can assist all workers to better understand and adapt to physical and psychological changes as they age. While this publication specifically addresses health and safety issues for older workers, most of the health and safety information provided applies to workers of any age.
