The NADC Area dataset is a polygon that represents the designated area of the Northern Alberta Development Council. a council established on March 29, 1963 by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Council is mandated 'to investigate, monitor, evaluate, plan and promote practical measures to foster and advance general development in northern Alberta and to advise to Government accordingly' (Northern Alberta Development Council Act, 2000)

Description

Cyanobacteria (also referred to as blue-green algae) are common photosynthetic bacteria that live in surface waters. Under favorable conditions, such as warm water and high nutrient content, these bacteria can form nuisance “blooms”. The presence of blooms in recreational water causes unpleasant aesthetics and exposure to some toxin-producing blooms may pose potential health risks. Contact with blooms can cause skin rashes and irritation, itchy eyes, and ear infections. Inhaling water may cause allergic-like reactions, runny noses or sore throats. Ingestion of toxins can cause a range of symptoms (e.g., hepatotoxic or neurotoxic effects, and even death). There has been increased public awareness as a result of research over the past 20 years, recent monitoring efforts, and increased public education on the topic. This dataset is a digital representation of the Land Use Zones delineated in 'A Policy for Resource Management of the Eastern Slopes (Revised 1984).” There are 8 land use zones classified in the Eastern Slopes Region, falling under either one of the 3 broad areas of zoning: Protection (Prime Protection and Critical Wildlife), Resource Management (Special Use, General Recreation, Multiple Use and Agriculture) or Development (Industrial and Facility). The digital data was created based on paper maps of various scales and bases, in conjunction with digital files obtained from regional staff that were available. The horizontal positional accuracy of the layer is of +/- 500 metres. No attempt was made to check any zoned areas where discrepancies were not apparent.

The Provincial Electoral Divisions used in this information product were enacted in December 2017 and came into effect for the 2019 provincial general election.

Alberta's fisheries cumulative effects modelling approach (Joe model) was used to assess the threats to bull trout in four Clearwater River watersheds (Rocky, Elk, Cutoff and Limestone creeks). The bull trout Joe model is a semi-quantitative cumulative effects model that combines 18 different threats and was populated with data specific for each of the four watersheds. This report documents the rationale for the relationship between the modelled stressors and predicted bull trout system capacity (stressor-response curves), describes the data used to populate the stressor input values, and provides a short summary of stressors and model outputs for each of the four study watersheds.

The final report from the Research Commercialization Working Group (RCWG) was developed by experts from academia and industry, together with government. The RCWG’s mandate was to deliver on Goal 3 of Alberta 2030: Support Innovation and Commercialization, and provide input to the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy. Some key recommended action items within the report include coordinating government funding on RCWG priority research sectors; developing an intellectual property (IP) framework that aligns IP policies, raises awareness of IP, and creates collaboration/hand-off opportunities to industry; and convening ecosystem players regularly and often to enhance research partnership potential. The full list of priority and supporting action items can be found in the report.
