The OHS Futures Research Funding Program provided a grant to the researcher to design an objective parameter to detect and quantify fatigue using purely kinematic information rather than electromyography (EMG)-based parameters, design and develop an experimental procedure to validate the new parameter against the EMG signal and rating of perceived exertion, experiment with various work condition scenarios to investigate the efficiency of the proposed kinematic parameter in muscle fatigue detection, and validate the accuracy of the wearable inertial measurement units (IMUs) in collecting the proposed kinematic (movement) parameter against the camera-based motion capture system for a long-term material handling task.

Derived Ecosite Phase (DEP) v2.0 is a digital and spatial representation of ecological sites and phases in those areas of Alberta where both Alberta Vegetation Inventory (AVI) and lidar are available. The AVI is an imagery-based digital inventory developed to identify the type, extent and conditions of vegetation, where it exists and what changes are occurring. The most up-to-date ecological site phases can be found in the Ecological Site Guides. Guides are broken into individual Natural Subregions. See the Cross Reference Section for additional information. This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Derived Ecosite Phase (DEP) is a digital and spatial representation of ecological sites and phases in those areas of Alberta where both Alberta Vegetation Inventory (AVI) and lidar are available. AVIE and a lidar-derived slope position were created by Agriculture and Forestry. Rules used to classify the data were developed by Environment and Parks. DEP v2.0 includes updated AVI, new lidar and an Alberta Wetlands Classification System field.

The researchers aim was to work toward formalizing guidelines for TCT optimization that would consider safety and time and cost constraints related to the expedition of construction projects. It is postulated that having guidelines and analysis tools such as these may decrease hazardous situations and safety risks that have been associated with expedition of construction project schedules.

The data, created in ArcGIS, represents an assessment of air quality risk for the agricultural area of Alberta in 2005. Agricultural activities that may have some influence on air quality manure production (odour) and cultivation intensity (particulate matter). The airsheds of the agricultural region of Alberta are considered to be uniform in their physical susceptibility to risk from agricultural activities. Air quality risk is a useful measure for those concerned about health, safety and nuisance issues related the quality of air in agricultural areas. Awareness of where agricultural activities related to livestock production and intensive cultivation are located, may be useful for people with health or nuisance related concerns. Blowing soil can cause respiratory problems and can reduce visibility on roads and highways. Dust from farm traffic can be a concern during peak agricultural activity, such as harvesting or manure hauling. Frequent strong odours can be unpleasant nuisance...

This map displays the distribution of the main soil types found within the province of Alberta. The distribution pattern of soils in Alberta is strongly linked to climate and parent materials. Climate affects the location of different soil groups. The driest area in southeastern Alberta is represented by the presence of Brown Chernozems. As one proceeds north and west, the soils and associated vegetation reflect the increase in available moisture.In Alberta, Organic soils generally occur in association with Luvisolic soils. These soils form under wet conditions where the organic layer (greater than 30% organic matter) accumulates faster than it decomposes. The organic layer varies in thickness from 40 to 160+ cm, and under natural conditions, the water table is at or near the surface. In some areas of the province, Organic soils may be artificially drained and used for agricultural production. This resource was created in 2002 using ArcGIS.

This map displays the risk of soil degradation by wind in the agricultural region of Alberta. Wind erosion is a concern because it reduces soil quality by removing soil nutrients, smaller soil particles and organic matter. Wind erosion can reduce air quality during extreme erosion events and also reduce water quality if eroded particles drift into streams and lakes. The map uses five classes to describe the wind erosion risk on bare, unprotected mineral soil: negligible, low, moderate, high and severe. This resource was created using ArcGIS. It was originally published as a print map in 1989.
