The MULTISAR program is focused on multi-species conservation at the landscape level that promotes stewardship through voluntary participation of landholders on both Crown and private lands. It is a collaborative effort among landholders, Alberta Conservation Association, Alberta Environment and Parks, and the Prairie Conservation Forum. This report summarizes MULTISAR's accomplishments in 2022-2023 in its three primary program areas: habitat conservation strategies; education, outreach and awareness; and research, monitoring, and evaluation.

The MULTISAR program is focused on multi-species conservation at the landscape level that promotes stewardship through voluntary participation of landholders on both Crown and private lands. In 2018, the Government of Alberta partnered with the Alberta Water Council to form a multi-sector project team to provide guidance for protecting sources of drinking water in Alberta. This guide provides advice on how to protect drinking water sources through source water protection planning.

This report is the final deliverable of an air quality modelling contract. The study built upon previous modelling studies focused on central Alberta and expanded the scope to include all regions of Alberta. Other improvements in this study included modelling a complete calendar year, emissions inventory updates for key sectors, and sector-based source apportionment for seven distinct sectors. Province-wide source apportionment will help inform air quality management initiatives, such as managing against the Canadian Ambient Air Quality Standards and other provincial air quality frameworks.

Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development retained ENVIRON International Corporation and Novus Environmental Inc. to conduct regional air quality modelling to support South Saskatchewan regional planning, as well as to provide a better understanding of potential air quality issues in the South Saskatchewan Region. The Community Multiscale Air Quality Modelling system was used to predict air pollution concentrations for the 2006-2008 and 2020, 2050 future years at 36, 12 and 4 km resolutions.
