Provides guidance to administrative staff in local governments seeking to apply to the Canada Community-Building Fund program for funding. The program provides predictable, long-term, stable funding for Canadian municipalities to help build and revitalize public infrastructure while creating jobs and long-term prosperity. Updated August 2024, pursuant to the new administrative agreement signed with the federal government in July, 2024.

Description

The purpose of the Northern and Regional Economic Development Program is to enhance economic conditions and leverage regional resources to build capacity for sustainable economic development and diversification. It provides an opportunity for communities to work with partners to identify and allocate resources to a promising area of regional economic development. This guidelines document explains the intention of the program, what entities are eligible to apply, and when applications will be accepted, and describes the types of projects that are eligible to apply. It also describes the application process, how applications are assessed, and the parameters around funding for successful applicants.

This document is in alignment with The Government of Alberta's policy on consultation with First Nations on land and natural resource management, 2013 and associated 2014 Guidelines, and The Government of Alberta's policy on consultation with Metis settlements on land and natural resource management, 2015 and associated 2016 Guidelines.

The program provides full-time and part-time opportunities for low-income Albertans, who are unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week, to participate in programs of study that increase knowledge and develop skills to prepare them for further education, training, and/or sustainable employment. The Program replaces the Learner Income Support program and the Skills Investment Bursary program.
