Recognising the seriousness of this reportable disease in the animal population, the federal government developed the CWD Herd Certification Program (HCP) in order to create clear and consistent national standards to support the domestic cervid industry through integrating good animal husbandry with sound biosecurity practices designed to avoid or minimise the spread of CWD. Provinces are empowereed to administer their own programs in an effort to tailor the Program to address specific regional needs while also maintaining conformity with national standards.
