Description

The data represents the annual solar radiation in Alberta over the 30-year period from 1971 to 2000. A 30-year period is use to describe the present climate since it is enough time to filter out short-term fluctuation by is not dominated by any long-term trend in the climate. Daily total incoming solar radiation is measured in megajoules per square metre (MJ/m2). Southern Alberta receives the greatest amount of annual global solar radiation with the amount gradually decreasing as you move farther north. However, cropping is successful in the northern (Peace River) area of Alberta because the longer summer day length helps compensate for the less intense solar radiation. The Forest Management Unit (FMU) C5 2006 Forest Management Plan (FMP) was prepared by the Crown. Under the new Forest Management Agreement (FMA) 2100047 – effective May 1, 2021 – Crowsnest Forest Products Ltd. is required to submit an FMP in accordance with the forest planning standards for the Minister's approval on or May 1, 2025. The 2025 FMP will replace the 2006 FMP. FMPs detail when, where and how timber on Alberta Crown land will be managed in order to balance social, economic and environmental needs based on input from the public, Indigenous peoples and interest groups. FMU C5 is located within the South Saskatchewan Land-use Framework planning region in southern Alberta and falls within the Montane, Alpine and Subalpine Natural Subregions.

The DFA is located within the Upper Athabasca and Upper Peace Land-Use Framework planning regions in west central Alberta; it falls within the Subalpine, Upper Foothills, Lower Foothills and Central Mixedwood Natural Subregions.

The forest management planning area under consideration is FMA 9000028 allocated to West Fraser Mills Ltd. (Slave Lake), (formerly known as Slave Lake Pulp Corporation). The FMP covers Forest Management Unit (FMU) S20 in north central Alberta. It is located almost entirely within the Upper Athabasca Land-Use Framework planning region. There is a small area in the southwest corner of FMU S20 that falls within the Upper Peace Land-use Framework planning region. It falls within the Upper Foothills, Lower Foothills, Central Mixedwood and Dry Mixedwood Natural Subregions

This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata on how to acquire this dataset. The Grassland Vegetation Inventory (GVI) represents the Government of Alberta's comprehensive biophysical, anthropogenic and land-use inventory of the southernmost portion of the province's White Area. The compilation of the inventory commenced in 2006 in the southeast corner of the province using digital colour-infrared stereo photography. Data capture has proceeded north and west. The Grassland Vegetation Inventory is intended as an update to the Native Prairie Vegetation Inventory (NPVI) that was completed circa 1993. The Grassland Vegetation Inventory product is a more comprehensive and detailed geospatial representation of land cover that is intended to meet a multitude of business needs integral to land-use planning and management in Alberta.
