Description

This georeferenced map shows the boundaries of the Wabasca Bison Protection Area in northern Alberta. Wood bison located within specified Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) are listed as Threatened under the Wildlife Act and Regulation, including the Wabasca population. The Wabasca Bison Protection Area provides additional protection from all hunting (by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people) to avoid extirpation of this small population of wood bison. This map can be viewed with a standard PDF viewer, but contains additional interactive enhancements that can only be accessed through specific reader apps. A detailed description of the Wabasca Bison Protection Area boundaries can be found within Schedule 11 of the Wildlife Regulation.

Description

This georeferenced map shows the boundaries of the Northwest Bison Protection Area in northern Alberta. Wood bison located within specified Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) are listed as Threatened under the Wildlife Act and Regulation, including the Hay-Zama and Etthithun Lake populations. In order to support the conservation, management and recovery of disease-free bison in northern Alberta, all hunting of wood bison within Northwest Bison Protection Area is regulated and based on issuance of a bison special licence and allocation processes for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons. This map can be viewed with a standard PDF viewer, but contains additional interactive enhancements that can only be accessed through specific reader apps. The Agricultural Land Resource Atlas of Alberta is a collection of agricultural resource maps developed following the completion of a scan of environmental issues facing agriculture in Alberta. The maps were prepared as part of this process, or were added to the collection because of their potential value to Alberta's agricultural community. The maps were recognized for their value to people involved in developing environmental farm plans who could use resource and environmental information on a broad scale.
