This design bulletin serves as an interim measure, documenting the “in transition” information moving from Engineering Consultant Guidelines, Volume 1 to Engineering Consultant Guidelines, Volume 2. It also highlights previously published bulletins that are now embedded in the body of the updated Engineering Consultant Guidelines, Volume 1. The bulletin is effective as of June 1, 2023.

Description

The authentication of engineering documents submitted by consultants is currently addressed in the Engineering Consultant Guidelines for Highway, Bridge and Water Projects Volume 1, in the Engineering Drafting Guidelines for Highway and Bridge Projects and in the Engineering Drawing Guidelines for Water Projects. Alberta Transportation is gradually moving towards electronic submission of all documents. This Design Bulletin covers the use of APEGA digital seals for engineering documents submitted by consultants to the Department. The Department will require the use of electronic submission of engineering documents with digital seals, as described in this bulletin and according to the implementation schedule listed in this bulletin.

The Alberta Transportation Engineering Drawing Guidelines for Water Projects are intended to provide guidance and procedures regarding the development of engineering drawings for Alberta Transportation (the department) water projects. The sharing and proper use of these drawing guidelines is a vital part of ensuring consistency and quality of projects. The Government of Alberta becomes the owner of the work submitted by the person or company that has entered a consulting services contract with the department for the provision of services on department projects (the consultant) and must be able to file and easily work with this information for the immediate project or for future projects.

The Government of Alberta is funding critical water projects across Alberta as part of the ongoing commitment to provide clean drinking water and wastewater treatment to Albertans in small urban and rural communities. This is part of the Budget 2017 investment of $474 million in Water for Life and Alberta Municipal Water and Wastewater Partnership grant programs over four years. Funding for new and existing water projects was announced on May 29, 2017, with $131 million from Alberta Transportation clean water and wastewater treatment grants.
