Description

This document is intended to assist regulated facilities under the Specified Gas Emitters Regulation with the completion of the baseline emissions intensity applications. Greenhouse gas emissions intensity is regulated on a facility-by-facility basis. Targets are set at the facility and that facility's performance over time is compared against its approved baseline emissions intensity.

An afforestation project will achieve GHG reductions/removals through the increase in carbon stocks on the project site as a result of the growth of trees. The opportunity for generating carbon offsets with this protocol arises mainly from carbon sequestration from planting trees on land not traditionally forested, such as agricultural land, urban land, agro-forestry operations and perhaps rehabilitation of industrial lands.
