This schedule sets out the water conservation objective flows for the Red Deer River from below Dickson Dam to the confluence of the Blindman River. Water conservation objectives set out the volume and quality of water to remain in rivers for the protection of a natural water body and its aquatic environment. They are flow targets under the first-in-time, first-in-right priority water allocation system and apply to all new licences and existing licences with a retrofit provision.

Description

The Dry and Central Mixedwood subregions cover nearly 40 per cent of the province. The vegetative communities in these subregions are important because they provide summer range for livestock, prime habitat for many species of wildlife, productive watersheds, recreational areas and timber production. However, there is limited information on their ecology and succession under the influence of livestock grazing. This guide provides a framework that can be used to easily group the vegetative community types. It is hoped the classification systems presented can be used to assess the ecology of the sites and develop integrated management plans within each region. This edition is a revision of the 6th approximation of the Range Plant Community Types and Carrying Capacity for the Dry and Central Mixedwood and the 7th approximation with minor corrections.

The location identified in the schedule as the location to meet the instream objective is Water Survey of Canada Station No. 07GB001 (Cutbank River near Grande Prairie). Instream objective schedules are provided as part of authorizations issued under the Water Act for licences for temporary diversion of water and are subject to future review and refinement in light of improved knowledge and information. The schedules need to be accessed with each authorization issued.
