In 2010, a set of standard geographies were developed for surveillance, planning, monitoring, and reporting of population health, health outcomes, and health support and services across Alberta. This document describes the principles, guidelines, criteria, and methodologies used to construct the geographic areas. It also describes the updating of and changes to these geographic areas based on new census boundaries and population data that resulted from the 2016 Census of Canada. Appendices contain maps of the updated standard geographic areas as of 2018.
