Alberta Environment conducted a mobile air quality monitoring survey near livestock feeding operations in the Lethbridge area from September 1998 to July 1999, in response to concerns voiced by local residents about odours from livestock feeding operations as well as a proposal for a hog processing plant in the Lethbridge area. Following the public release of the Alberta Environment report and a critique by the Chinook Health Region, a request was made by Alberta Environment for this independent review of the Alberta Environment study and the Chinook Health Region critique.

This study investigated the population ecology of grizzly bears in the boreal upland ecoregion in the Berland and Little Smoky rivers area in west central Alberta. Specific objectives of the study were to determine the size, density, productivity and stability of this grizzly bear population. Because grizzly bears occurred sympatrically with black bears, the study also obtained data on the population characteristics of black bears.

Description

This follow-up investigation and screening level HHRA update was completed to address data gaps and recommendations outlined in the HHRA previously conducted by Golder in 2010 and 201. Specifically, the objective of this investigation was to collect additional seasonal groundwater and soil vapour data at the site, and to update the previous HHRA based on this new data. The soil vapour sampling events carried out as part of this investigation targeted times of year when groundwater levels were expected to be at their approximate lowest and the vapour risk was assumed to be at its approximate highest.

Connacher is proposing to expand the productive capacity of its existing facilities by an additional 3,700 m3 of bitumen per day to bring the overall lease production to approximately 7,000 m3/day (44,000 bbl/d) of bitumen. The location of the project is approximately 70 km south of Fort McMurray in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The EIA was deemed complete in 2012. Description

A ten day field campaign was carried out on North Saskatchewan River to study the physical mixing with the ambient river water of effluent from the Goldbar Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), Capital Region WWTP and Agrium Redwater operations. In this report we present rhodamine concentrations, depth averaged water velocities, and flow depths across surveyed sections in reaches downstream of each plant. The objectives of the study were twofold. The primary objective was to determine the downstream distance required to achieve full mixing of the effluent. Full mixing was defined as the location where tracer concentration was uniform across the section. The second objective was to measure spatially distributed tracer concentration and water velocity in the mixing zone, such that dispersion patterns could be determined.

The North Saskatchewan River (NSR) watershed in Alberta drains 57,000 square kilometers. The sparsely populated NSR headwaters are at the Saskatchewan Glacier in Banff National Park and are mostly pristine. The river flows more than 1,000 kilometers from its headwaters to the Alberta– Saskatchewan border with an annual outflow of 7.2 billion cubic meters. The NSR joins the South Saskatchewan River and eventually flows into Lake Winnipeg. Water use along the NSR and its tributaries includes human consumption, waste assimilation, hydroelectric power generation, oil and gas extraction, mining, and agriculture. Major dams in the watershed are two hydropower peaking facilities: the Bighorn on the mainstem of the NSR, which forms Abraham Lake and the Brazeau Reservoir on the Brazeau River. The Project is expected to have a production capacity of 130,000 barrels of oil per day and the location is within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, appoximately 10 km east of Conklin, Alberta.
